Police in Nairobi are currently investigating the events surrounding the tragic death of city lawyer Boaz Nyakeri who was stabbed on Saturday night at Ongata Rongai.
According to the Police, Nyakeri was trailed by unknown assailants on his way home, got stabbed in the neck near the Maasai lodge in Rongai.
The lawyer (now deceased) was in the company of his cousin, who was also stabbed in the arm and sustained some injuries.
Police maintain that Nyakeri was partying at night at a nearby lodge before the assailants landed on him and his cousin.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) through its CEO Mercy Wambua has since condemned the murder of the City lawyer and called for speedy investigation even as she claims there was no clarity as to the motive behind the attack.
Wambua said advocates as court officials and human rights defenders places them at a higher risk of possible ambush by possible foes.
“Mr. Nyakeri was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The case has been reported at Ole Kasasi Police Station in Ongata Rongai. The Council condemns in the strongest terms possible the brutal murder of Advocate Boaz and calls on the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite investigations in order to bring the culprits to book,” said LSK CEO Wambua.
The LSK CEO further called on the Government to ensure that all advocates and judiciary staff are provided with adequate security and protection from any form of harm, threats, intimidation, and attacks that may arise as a result of the nature of their work.
“We call on the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to heighten the security apparatus within the country especially during the festive seasons,” added the CEO.
